Calvados Nouvelle trophies cocktail competition

The 2017 UKBG heat of the Calvados Nouvelle trophies cocktail competition was this year held at the unique Samarkand restaurant in Charlotte st, it was hosted by Mr Fabio Immovilli the bar manager and his team.

This year we were honoured to have Ms Isabelle Blanchard as our special guest all the way from France, representing IDAC.

We were also very delighted to have three prominent Calvados brands to support and sponsor the event, Pere Magliore, Boulard and Due Pont,

The judges for the day were, ms Isabelle Blanchard, ms Daisy Jones from Class magazine, Mr Tiago Mira, head bartender in the Rivoli bar at the Ritz hotel, Mrs Mary Walker from Cellar Trends, Fabio Immovilli and Mr Jim Slavin.

There were some drinks of very high standards , ms Blanchard said that she was very impressed with the quality and high standards from both the students and the professionals.

The event was run and organised by members of the UKBG from all areas.

The ultimate prize for the winner of both the professional and students will be a visit to Granville in France to represent the UK, in the international grand final, this will be an all expenses paid trip which will include a visit to a calvados producer to see how it is all made.

The professional winner was from the Ritz, Rivoli bar Mr Daniel Stepien with his drink which he called “Stone Amber ”

35ml Pere Magliore vsop
15ml Lillet blanc
10ml lemon juice
3drops of peach bitters
5ml Monin vanilla syrup.
A foam of Apple juice/elderflower liqueur/ organic egg white.
Garnished with apple blossom and lemon

2nd place went to Miss Sofia Giancola, who works at the China Tang at the Dorchester hotel.

3rd place went to , Giacomo Guarnera, who works in the Churchill bar at the Hyatt hotel, Portman square .

The winning student was Mark Russell, who is a student at the Brockenhurst college in the New Forest. His drink was made with.

30 ml Boulard Calvados
20 ml Kahlua
20 ml caramel salted syrup
One tablespoon of Cornish clotted cream
Garnished with fudge crumb.

2nd place went to , Chelsea Shannon, also from, Brockenhurst college.

3rd place went to , Daniel Katurala, from the Westminster Kingsway college in Victoria..

It is with great thanks to the colleges who took part and the Tutors who help and encouraged the students who took part.
