Bartender’s Hub is UKBG’s regular member’s community session. Each session we platform partners, sponsors or speak to regional chairs about issues facing the industry. It’s an opportunity to network, share ideas, learn and help shape your career and venue.
This month’s UKBG Bartender’s Hub is a little special – firstly, because we’re going to be coming to you live and direct from Roots Bar, Stratford – in a hybrid in-person/livestreamed event! However, our big news is the announcement of the UKBG National Cocktail Competition – along with rules, venues and sponsors! We have former UKBG NCC Winner, Lawrence Woodrow-Smith in conversation, as well as giving members the chance to meet more of the UKBG’s board – this month, our Head of Events and Operations, Adamo Verbaro.
Our event is sponsored by the amazing Akashi Sake Brewery who will be working with us throughout the NCC.

Meet the Speakers
Adamo started his career back in the early ’90s in Italy, where he attended the Hospitality Management school. After several years working in bars and restaurants, he moved to London in the early 2000’s to strengthen his knowledge and experience of the industry. He worked in a variety of venues, hosted private & corporate events and consulted for various companies until finding his place within ItalSpirits, where he expanded his knowledge in marketing, events and brand activation.
He now runs his solo business of events, consultancy and brand building while supporting the UKBG as the Head of Events & Operations. Adamo has produced the UKBG’s stalls at Cocktails in the City, and is heading up production for the National Cocktail Championships.
Midlands-raised and now Yorkshire-based, Lawrence was the UKBG’s National Cocktails Champion in 2020. He was due to represent the UK at the IBA’s World Cocktail but sadly, the pandemic put a dampener on that – and many other plans. We’ll be in conversation with Lawrence about the importance of competition in the bartending scene, as well as getting a couple of demo serves out of him.
Meet the Sponsor – Akashi Sake Brewery
Akashi Sake Brewery has survived against the fierce currents of time and change since 1856, to produce some of the world’s finest sake. Pioneered by several generations, each Akashi-Tai sake is a reflection of the Yonezawa family’s undying love for their profession, now guided by our Toji, Sake Master, Kimio Yonezawa. Located in the port city of Akashi in southwest Japan, the brewery continues to produce sakes and liqueurs, as it has for over a century. Check out their amazing range of products
The UKBG has built a solid relationship over the pandemic period with Akashi-Tai, through our friends at Marussia Beverages. They have been eager to support the UK bartending community through our KOKUSHI! education series, covering Japanese spirit categories. They will be sponsoring the event and grand prize for the NCC.
