UKBG Wray & Nephew Masterclass & Competition at the Captains Club

“On Tuesday 30th July held the UKBG Wray & Nephew Masterclass & Competition at the Captains Club Hotel in Christchurch. The event held appearances from Nick Baxter– the Brand Ambassador for Wray & Nephew, Gregory Allen – Wray & Nephew Accounts Developer and also London’s Chairman for the UKBG, Mike Sweetman. The day kicked off with a complimentary welcome drink of Wray & Nephew and Tin (Jamaican Grapefruit juce)passed around for everyone to get an idea of Wray & Nephew’s taste and notes. After everyone arrived began the talk of Way & Nephew through a Powerpoint presentation, presented by Nick Baxter . Including tasters of Wray & Nephew for everyone to allow them all to understand the flavor profiles of the Overproof Rum and what they can personally pick up form it.

Once the competition itself began all 13 competitors waited their turn to compete and watching everyone’s stunning variation on a Wray & Nephew cocktail. There was not one disappointment with each competitor everyone’s drink was of high standards for UKBG. From serves in a bucket & spade to within a globe everyone represented Wray & Nephew in their own incredible style.

With the top three competitors was a difficult decision for the judges considering everyone participated incredibly within the competition. In 3rd place was Josh Haynes from Trailer Happiness Bar & Lounge in London, 2nd place was Rob Collins from Meat liquor in London and finally in 1st place was Franco Burnell from the Print Rooms in Bournemouth with his drink –The Castaways Coconut Punch:

20ml fresh Mandarin Juice

30ml homemade Falernum

10ml Coconut Syrup

25ml Wray & Nephew

35ml Koko Kanu rum

50ml Coconut Water

30ml Coconut Milk

Garnish: Dry coconut shells, cococnut sand and Mandarin peel.

To top off it was overall a fantastic day with some stunning drinks being made, plenty of brand knowledge and a whole load of great vibes. With special thanks to Tim Lloyd and Salvatore Damiano for their hosting of the event at the Captains Club Hotel, London’s Chairman for UKBG Mike Sweetman, each and every 13 competitors and finally James Fowler from the Larderhouse and Library in Southbourne for organizing the event and the whole of the Bournemouth Bartenders League.
